Mechalight Prototype 1

My third watch project, the prototype for a watch with light without batteries.

for as long as I have wanted to make watches I have had the idea of making a mechanical watch with an electrical light that is produced without glowing chemicals and without without batteries. A dynamo powered light. this is the first prototype to prove this concept.

The movement of this watch is an old ASTER made movement form the first half of the last century, somewhere from 1930’s, the gearsystem for the dynamo is made from salvaged parts from various devices and self fabricated parts. the lightsource on this watch is also a real incandescent lightbulb. the light works by twisting the big crown on the low right corner of the watch, covered by a crown protector. the electricity itself is produced by a small high-RPM motor salvaged from a toy RC-helicopter, wich is now being run in reverse by the gearsystem to produce electricity.

every part of this watch is hand made except for the electric motor, the old recycled aster- watch movment and some of the gears in the gearsystem that are salvaged from scrapped instruments.

the case dimensions are colocssal 51 mm x 65 mm

case made from stainless stavax-steel.

the crystals are hand cut from recycled material.
